Josh Burton Interview

In this project we had to interview a subject that we believed had valuable information that needed to be heard. We chose Josh Burton a soccer player at our school (Olathe Northwest) and asked about his life as a student athlete and how it has helped him in other aspects of his life. To create this video we had to get together and talk about who we wanted to interview what shots we wanted to get and where. We did this by talking about people that we knew were available and were involved in extracurricular activities.
We then took a camera out to the areas that we had previously scouted out and recorded our interview which we had previously developed twenty questions for. afterwards we had to ask some of the upperclassmen for clips from the soccer game so that we could use it in our B-roll. After we had done all that the only thing left to do before editing was creating voiceovers to mask the original questions with something more suitable for a news like story.
Once we had gotten all of this we transferred it over to our computers in one of the schools many Mac labs. To edit the video we used Premiere Pro, an appliance we have become very familiar with. Through the editing process of the video we had to match up B-roll with questions correctly and   edit the audio to make sure that any music, if added, didn't overpower the audio with more precedence in the situation, being the questions and answers. Something that I learned how to use was the name tag overlay for the subject being interviewed.
In this process I was the one asking the questions and helped come up with a lot  of them. I also helped choose what location would be best to shoot in, mostly by trying to find a place with the best audio. Also, as always, we all had to edit our own video which takes up a good portion of the time. in this project I helped my team stay on task and gave input on where I believed would be the best places for shots. To be a successful group you must not only have a connection or at least be able to communicate with your group, which we were good at,  but you also must have knowledge on how to use and operator the tools that are needed to produce the video like the camera, the SD cards, and the Premiere Pro application which I felt like our group struggled with at points especially when working with the camera.
Next project I would like to use our time more wisely in class and get things planned quickly even if that means taking the time to storyboard outside of school. I would also like to learn how to operate the camera a little better. I don't know if I would do anything the same in the future not because it was bad or because I didn't learn anything, but it is because I feel like there is room for improvement in every aspect of the work that me and my group did. For my next project I will try to improve my work by keeping in mind that there are dead lines and that we need to get the work done in class as fast as we can while preserving the quality of the work instead of using the time we have to film to plan out what to film.
In conclusion I believe that this project has helped me grasp an understanding of the expectations and needs of future work. It has helped me realize that the work we put out is going to need to improve and not stay the same, because we must advance in our e-comm work just as we would in any other core class like English or Math. By the end of the year I would like to be able to see the improvement in my work.
